CAFOs

Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) are operations which confine animals for more than 45 days during a growing season in an area that does not have vegitation and meets certain size thtresholds. For example, in October 2013, the largest CAFO in Wisconsin,  Rosendale Dairy, housed 9,400 cows and generated more than 100 million gallons of waste per year; this waste was spread over approximately 30,000 acres.
